The play flopped and was given to Alexandre Dumas to rewrite, becoming a huge success. For the modern audience, Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980) undertook a new rewrite. This volume, from that rewrite, was translated from the French by Kitty Black. In five acts: Act 1, Scene One: The Hall of the Danish Embassy in London . . .
